Jaalen’s latest canoe is a 33 foot long ocean-going Haida canoe.  Carved from a single old growth red cedar log, its hull was carefully shaped with adze and then chisel in anticipation of being steamed open to its final shape to create a stable seaworthy vessel.  After the steaming, Jaalen attached yellow cedar gunwhales, ribs, carrying rail and seats.  It fits 12 adults comfortably and their cargo.  Visit the canoe gallery to see photos of the process or view the videos below.
